What happened to you Jamal?
I was sleeping I don’t know
But when I woke up I saw
A canvas of red splatters
I thought it was the dye
The dye Mama touched
But I went to touch them
Held my fingers to my nose
There it was. Not dye but death
The iron paint drying up my breath.
Knock knock who’s there?
The woman with Dad
A dying wish
A double blow
A hand outstretched
A hand I hated to hold
Rain comes, my tears hidden
Here I am, in a ship far from barren
Water is everywhere, above and below
I look up, see the face of a beast
Get pelted with its iron fist
I look down, seeking solace
See my face before it rises at me
Wet and cold, inside and out
I close my eyes, scream.
Mama appears
She kisses me
Dear boy
Stay
With me
A newfound strength
A newfound courage
I open my eyes and rage the race.
